We were thrilled to recently share our insights with the Sydney Mobile Journalist MeetUp Group, where Flying Machine Films Founder & Director Jamie Andrei gave a hands-on presentation focused on immersive storytelling. The session served as an accessible introduction to 360 video, tailored specifically for journalists, content creators, and storytellers working in mobile-first formats.
With a room full of seasoned journalists in attendance, Jamie shared practical tips on how to approach, prepare for, and produce mobile-friendly 360 video content — a skill that’s becoming increasingly valuable in today’s media landscape. From gear selection to framing techniques, we walked through the basics of immersive content and how to make it work even with limited resources.
For many in the room, this session was their first real introduction to 360 video, so we focused on fundamentals: understanding field of view, guiding audience attention, and building stories that make the most of the full 360 environment — all while keeping mobile usability in mind.
We also covered workflow efficiency, best practices for editing and exporting, and how to publish 360 video across platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and mobile journalism apps. Plus, we shared insight into what’s working right now in immersive content — and where it’s heading next.
It was a fantastic session filled with smart questions, great conversations, and lots of excitement about where immersive media is headed — especially in mobile journalism and real-time reporting.
